SBOM Responds to POMA and Updates its Website
February 14, 2024

In response to POMA's letter indicating deficiencies on the SBOM website, the State Board of Osteopathic Medicine (Board) took a significant step forward in updating it to provide better guidance to Osteopathic physicians in Pennsylvania.

At its February 14, 2024 Board meeting, it was announced that the Board’s website had been updated to clearly outline the processes for applicants regarding the 1-year internship for licensure, which is no longer being enforced by the Board.  Leading up to this however, there were still multiple examples of applications being denied for this deficiency.  In response, the Osteopathic physician community has been assured this will no longer be the case as internal protocols have been established to mitigate this from occurring.

The second issue clarified in writing from the Board deals with the need to complete the COMLEX II-PE portion of applicant testing.  As POMA also correctly reported last year, the Board is not requiring this test until a successor course has been adopted by the NBOME.  For more specifics, please check the Board’s website.

POMA thanks the Board, administrative staff, and its legal counsel for these needed updates.  Anyone who has additional issues on these two sections of their application should email POMA as soon as possible.
