POMA Leadership

The POMA Board of Trustees is made up of active and respected DOs in Pennsylvania.  The officers are voted into position each year at the Annual Clinical Assembly.

President

William Swallow, DO 
William B. Swallow, DO
Dingmans Ferry

William B. Swallow, DO, MS/FM, FACOFP, Captain MC, USNR (Ret.), is an AOA board certified family physician who lives in Dingmans Ferry, Pennsylvania. A US Navy Veteran, Dr. Swallow served his country in the United States Naval Reserves as Captain in the Medical Corps with deployment to Saudi Arabia during Desert Shield/Storm, Director of Medical Services at Fleet Hospital 22, Battalion Surgeon at Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 21 in Lakehurst, New Jersey; and Senior Medical Officer at the Operational Health Support Unit in Bethesda, Maryland. He has also served his community in leadership roles of the American Red Cross, Optimist International and local emergency management agencies.

Dr. Swallow earned bachelor's and master's degrees at Bucknell University and earned a master's degree and osteopathic medical degree at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Following his postgraduate training at Community General Osteopathic Hospital in Harrisburg, he maintained a private practice in Milton, Pennsylvania before joining Geisinger Health System as a staff physician. After completing his military assignments, Dr. Swallow provided care to American veterans with the Veterans Health Administration.

In addition to serving as POMA's 2024-25 president, Dr. Swallow is champion of POMA's Education Pillar and serves as a member of the POMA Foundation Board of Directors. A fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians, he is a member of the American Osteopathic Association and the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Family Physicians Society.

George Wolters, Jr., DO
George Wolters, Jr., DO
West Chester

George J. Wolters, Jr., DO, FACOEP, is a board certified emergency medicine physician who lives in West Chester, Pennsylvania.  Founder and past president of RMH Emergency Medicine Associates, PC in Media, Pennsylvania, he is a graduate of Widener University in Chester and a 1979 graduate of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.  He completed an internship at Cherry Hill Medical Center in New Jersey and an emergency medicine residency at PCOM. 

In addition to serving as POMA's 2024-25 president-elect, Dr. Wolters is champion of POMA's Influence Pillar and serves as a member of the POMA Foundation Board of Directors. A fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians, he is secretary of POMA's District 2 and a member of the American Osteopathic Association.

Angela Zawisza, DO

Angela Zawisza, DO, FAAP, is chair of the pediatric department at Lehigh Valley Hospital - Schuylkill in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. Board certified in pediatrics, she is a graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, and a 2007 graduate of Des Moines (Iowa) University - Osteopathic Medical Center College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery. She completed an internship and pediatric residency at Geisinger Medical Center's Janet Weis Children's Hospital in Danville, Pennsylvania.

In addition to serving as POMA's 2024-25 vice president, Dr. Zawisza is champion of POMA's Communications Pillar and serves as a member of the POMA Foundation Board of Directors. A fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, she is a member of the American Osteopathic Association.

Eric J. Milie, DO
Erie

Eric J. Milie, DO, FACOI, of Erie, is board certified in internal medicine and a physician at Medical Associates of Erie. He is also medical director of outpatient services and director of the internal medicine residency program at Millcreek Community Hospital in Erie.

In addition to serving as POMA's 2024-25 Secretary/Treasurer, Dr. Milie is champion of POMA's Governance Pillar and serves as Secretary/Treasurer of the POMA Foundation. A fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Internists, he serves as a delegate to the POMA and the American Osteopathic Association.

John Kalata, DO
John J. Kalata, DO
Erie

John J. Kalata, DO, MS, FACOFP, is the assistant designated institutional official at LECOM Health-Millcreek Community Hospital (MCH) in Erie, Pennsylvania, and program director of the family medicine residency and transitional year residency at MCH. He is also an AOA board certified family physician with Medical Associates of Erie.

A graduate of the University of Notre Dame and a 1986 graduate of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, he completed his postgraduate training at Doctors Osteopathic Hospital in Erie.  Dr. Kalata also completed a master’s degree in medical education at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine.

A fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians, Dr. Kalata is a member of the POMA Foundation Board of Directors, the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Family Physicians Society, the American Osteopathic Association, and the Association of Osteopathic Directors and Medical Educators. 

Chief Executive OfficerAndy Sandusky

Andy Sandusky, MPA

Andy Sandusky, MPA, is the chief executive officer of the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association (POMA).  Mr. Sandusky previously served as Executive Vice President of Public Policy and Administration Affairs for POMA.

Prior to joining POMA, he represented a Fortune 110 healthcare company in its government, public and PAC affairs; served as a Senior Associate at a government relations firm; served as Executive Policy Director at the Pennsylvania Department of Health; and was Chief Operating Officer of the Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians.

Mr. Sandusky earned a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Pittsburgh and a master's degree in public administration from Pennsylvania State University.

In addition to serving as CEO of POMA, Mr. Sandusky also serves as CEO of the POMA Foundation and Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Family Physicians Society.
