PGYP East Region September 2019

Professional Guidance East Region September 2019 meeting

The Professional Guidance/Young Physician – East Region held its first meeting of the year on September 26, 2019 at Maggiano’s in King of Prussia. It was wonderful to see such a great turnout – we had 20 residents/interns, 5 committee physicians and 1 POMA staff member in attendance.

Elections were held during the meeting to represent residents in the East Region at the POMA Board of Trustees and POMA House of Delegates. Andrea DeSimone, DO from Thomas Jefferson University Hospital is the Board Representative and Amanda Piraino, DO from Bryn Mawr Hospital is the Alternate Representative. The Representative and Alternate to the POMA House of Delegates in April will be discussed at the December meeting.

Mental health and wellness was a big part of the discussion.  POMA is committed to providing opportunities to support wellness activities and create a safe space for open dialogue. The residents were encouraged to with their colleagues and have their programs apply for the Resident Wellness Event grants. The group was asked to consider submitting entries for POMA's “How Are You DOing?” blog.

The residents also were provided information on how to apply for a POMA Foundation scholarship.

An open discussion on issues facing residents was held.  Topics largely centered around the business of medicine – how to find a job, dealing with recruiters, contracts, fostering leadership skills. Some of these topics will be addressed at the next meeting. Other topics will be featured at POMA’s Annual Resident Leadership Program which will be held on April 30 in King of Prussia.

Future meetings for the PGYP East Region will be in King of Prussia on December 12, 2019 at Radisson Valley Forge and March 18, 2020 at Bonefish Grill.
