District 12 Recap - August 16, 2019 - Dinner & Theater

We DO Support Our Community!

District 12 Dinner and Theater

On Friday, August 16, 2019, 39 members of our osteopathic family from District 12, including attending physicians, resident physicians, osteopathic medical students, their children, mothers, fathers and sisters enjoyed a splendid evening of food, fellowship, performing arts, and most importantly, awareness and contribution to the community in which we live and work.

The evening started with a private dinner (complete with appetizers, tastings from area entrepreneurs and a chef-prepared gourmet meal) at Soul Platter Café, Scribner Ave., DuBois. The Soul Platter Café is a “pay what you can” restaurant, open (generally) only for lunch Fridays and Saturdays. The mission of the establishment is to provide nutritious, good tasting food to those who may not be able to afford such a meal. Funded by the generosity of the community, Soul Platter relies on patrons “paying it forward”. Following the meal (choice of vegetable lasagna, grilled salmon filet, beef tenderloin or flat bread pizza for the children), attendees where sent off with a specially packaged dessert to be enjoyed during intermission of the show.

A short two-block walk to the Reitz Theater allowed attendees to stretch their legs, visit with each other and enjoy the wonderful weather. The volunteer staff of the community theater greeted us with specially reserved seating for the sold-out performance of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat”. We had one unclaimed ticket that was given to a gentleman who drove 30 minutes in hopes to get a single ticket to the sold-out show. We DO share!!!!

The evening was definitely a success, on all levels. We enjoyed each other’s company outside of the clinical setting; osteopathic family members interacted with others they may not normally encounter. POMA showed support for the community with exposure of these fine establishments who generously serve our community.

POMA members are already thinking of our next “big event”!

Thank you for your support, POMA.
