UPMC Lititz Anesthesiology - Rock Climbing - May 2023

Residents have ups and downs throughout their program and UPMC Lititz Anesthesiology residents took it literally. The residents gathered together for an...

... indoor rock climbing experience. The residents learned team work and coordination while also learning they can do anything.

  1. The understanding and purpose of this Wellness Grant by participants was to use it in a way where we could do a group activity in which everyone participates and supports each other, as we do in the hospital. It was a way for everyone to refresh and reset, so we can continue doing a great job.
  2. Tangible tools or strategies demonstrated were supporting each other when one person could not do something on the first try. For example, there were difficult rock climbing rocks and we continued supporting and rooting for each other despite the first time not being successful. Being supportive in the operative room and outside the operative room is key to success for us.
  3. How I feel when I am experiencing stress is lazy, sleepy, hungry, and overwhelmed.
  4. Suggestions I have to increase the probability of success for other programs to use the Grant, is to get more residents included in the activity and also to supply a reason why they should apply and use the Grant as it can help prevent stress and increase coping skills.
  5. Things I learned, were being supportive in stressful situations and also to ask for help. To not be afraid to ask for help either.

Thank you so much for the grant!
