After an ice-breaking/leadership activity (“resident BINGO”) and an opportunity to meet attendees, the year’s first meeting of the Professional Guidance/Young Professionals – West Region was called to order. Residents discussed topics they would like included in upcoming forums, including: Direct Primary Care, Leadership in Medicine, Tie Management/Organization, Interpersonal Relationships, Functional Integrative Medical Fields, ACGME Impact.

Residents were encouraged to access information through the POMA website, in particular, information and application for POMAF scholarships and the MHTF Wellness Grant.

Several residents who benefitted from last year’s Wellness Grants shared their experiences and encouraged other programs to apply for the grant.

Dr. Battistella lead a discussion on POMA’s advocacy efforts, asking residents to become involved in contacting representatives and senators regarding issues that impact the osteopathic profession.

Educational opportunities throughout the state as well as district participation was highlighted. Dr. Ramsey reminded residents of licensure requirements and encouraged attendance at CME conferences early in cycle to make sure that required credits are obtained for licensure.

The residents were given the opportunity to ask questions and interact with each other. Nominations for representation to POMA and POFPS were opened. The attendees wished to take the information to their programs, along with the dates of obligation for the representation before committing to positions. An email will be sent to the representatives in the upcoming weeks to fill those positions.

The next meeting of the POMA Professional Guidance Committee, West Region will be held December 6, 2018 at a location to be determined.
