Abington Family Medicine Family Medicine - Family Dinner  05.17.24

1. What was the general understanding of the purpose of the project/program by participants?
The general understanding of the event was an informal gathering to share food and camaraderie at the home of one of our attendings following a long day of group learning at a conference hosted by our residency.

2. Why did you choose the specific wellness project/activity?
The initial choice for our event was a group yoga session, however we did not have enough interest to have this event go through. We wanted to host a relaxing session after a day of learning as an alternative to support our residents. For those who could not attend but expressed interest, we created gift bags filled with wellness items - healthy snacks (granola bars, healthy sweets), moisturizer, sunscreen, hand sanitizer, etc.

3. During the project/program, what tangible tools or strategies were demonstrated or taught to address wellness and life balance?
We shared food - both healthy and fun - and shared stories and strategies between residents and 2 attendings who had passed on advice about balance between work and life in Family Medicine

4. What do you intend to do, upon returning to work, that you learned and practiced during the activity, that will improve your response to stressful situations?
I personally hope to be able to set a better work life balance with boundaries to protect my wellness.

5. What can POMA do to address wellness and life balance for your future?
I appreciate POMA sponsoring these types of activities for residency programs and offering time specifically to focus on wellness. I hope that POMA continues to offer this for residency programs in the future!
