What is POMPAC?POMPAC is the political action committee of the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association (POMA). It serves as the political voice for osteopathic physicians across Pennsylvania. By collecting monetary donations from DOs and friends of osteopathic medicine, POMPAC supports targeted state candidates who champion osteopathic principles and patient care. By concentrating the resources of POMA’s membership, the committee amplifies the profession’s influence in Harrisburg and helps elect lawmakers who understand osteopathic medicine. What does POMPAC do?POMPAC’s mission is to raise and distribute funds to candidates for state offices in Pennsylvania who are friendly to osteopathic medicine. The political action committee operates as a bipartisan group governed by POMA members. Donations are recorded and reported quarterly, and these reports are made public to maintain transparency. POMPAC contributes to legislators regardless of party affiliation; the primary criterion is their support for osteopathic physicians and the unique practice of osteopathic medicine. Why is POMPAC important?Running for public office requires significant financial resources. Many elected officials support POMA’s mission and appreciate the distinctive care provided by doctors of osteopathic medicine. POMPAC strengthens these relationships by providing legally permissible contributions to campaigns. Without a robust PAC, osteopathic physicians risk losing influence over healthcare policies that affect licensure, reimbursement and patient care. POMPAC ensures that the osteopathic profession has a seat at the policy table. How can osteopathic physicians contribute?Donors can support POMPAC by making contributions via personal check or credit card. Contributions may be scheduled monthly, quarterly, biannually or annually. Importantly, corporate contributions are prohibited and donations to POMPAC are not tax-deductible. Because the PAC must comply with Pennsylvania campaign finance law, all contributions are recorded and publicly reported.
