UPMC Lititz Anesthesiology - Ziplining and Obstacle Course at Refreshing Mountain May 17, 2022

The anesthesia residents had our wellness event today. We did zip lining and an obstacle course at Refreshing Mountain. It was such a beautiful day and the residents had such a great time! We all wanted to thank you and POMA for giving us the resources to be able to organize such an event. We are very grateful for that.

Results Survey – UPMC Lititz Anesthesiology 05.17.22

1. What was the general understanding of the purpose of the project/program by participants?
The purpose of our wellness event was to bring our residents together in a non-work related occasion to relieve stress, build camaraderie, and to promote the importance of prioritizing time for one’s wellness.

2. During the project/program, what tangible tools or strategies were demonstrated or taught (i.e, coping skills for wellness and life balance?
During our ziplining event the residents utilized teamwork and trust to motivate and encourage each other to complete the obstacle challenges. It was so great to all be working together to achieve a united task. We also received support from our attendings and residency coordinator to help provided protected time for our event so that the residents could be present. It reminds us that we really are all one unit working together.

3. What word(s) best describes how you feel when you are experiencing stress or well-being imbalance?
Overwhelmed, unmotivated and discouraged

4. What suggestions do you have to increase the probability of success for the project/[program for other institutions?
I think it is important to have not only the support from your co-residents in organizing and participating in group wellness events but also to have the support from the program and access to resources and grants (such as the one kindly provided by POMA) to help make these events possible.
5. What do you intend to do, upon returning to work, that you learned and practiced during the activity, that will improve your response to stressful situations.
I intend to break down tasks into smaller and more easily achievable goals rather than being overwhelmed by one large seemingly unsurmountable task or stressor. This activity promoted the importance of reaching out for help and utilizing the support from our colleagues so that we may achieve what we set out to.
