Jefferson Health Northeast Family Medicine Residency- Fun at the Arcade 2021

It was all fun and game at the arcade! We enjoyed our POMA sponsored resident to help destress ourselves from our rotations and to build bonds with our fellow residents. We rented out the arcades and just had a blast.

Results/Outcome Survey
1. What was the general understanding of the purpose of the project/program by participants?
The purpose was to get the family medicine residents together for some time outside of residency. All of us needed some time together outside the hospital and our wellness arcade event was an excellent opportunity for all of us to be together. We spent a couple of hours together at an arcade with the accompaniment of good food
2. During the project/program, what tangible tools or strategies were demonstrated or taught (i.e, coping skills for wellness and life balance)?
We learned various strategies of teamwork and team building through the games we played. One game that we played that was notable was a trivia game that we were all actively engaged in. We worked as a team and got the high score on the trivia game.
3. What word(s) best describes how you feel when you are experiencing stress or well-being imbalance?
Burned out! It impacts the way how I work. I can feel drained working and those around me can see how stressed I am. My mood is much different, and I am a lot more irritable I have noticed.
4. What suggestions do you have to increase the probability of success for the project/program for other institutions?
Players can be divided into different teams and points can be tallied at the end for the winning team. Each game would account for points for the winning team. This is a fun way to get a fun competitive atmosphere. Prizes can also be given at the end for a good incentive.
5. What do you intend to do, upon returning to work, that you learned and practiced during the activity, that will improve your response to stressful situations?
We as a group felt very refreshed after our event. The wellness arcade reminded us a group that we needed some time outside of the hospital. We grew closer to each other and we were very thankful that we had this opportunity to spend our time with each other.
