District 10 Recap – June 14, 2019

District 10

Important points to remember from the presentation:

  • Dr. Kumar spoke about new technologies in visualization, biopsy, and treatment of pulmonary nodules.
  • A program at Fox Chase offers low dose CT screening with a visit to assess results done in one day for patients ages 55-80 with at least 30 pack year exposure to tobacco, to those who are current smokers, or have quit in the last 15 years.
  • Endobronchial ultrasound has given fuller access to the middle third of the Mediastinum
  • Peripheral or radial EBUS is not done in real time. A nodule can be marked, but in order to biopsy it, the device needs to be removed to insert the needle.
  • The latest technology includes robotic bronchoscopy. A large advantage of this is it increases visibility till the end of the procedure. This does increase the length of the procedure, and most patients require general anesthesia. It also is indicated in non-surgical candidates for peripheral tumor ablation.

For the next gathering, POMA District 10 Leadership has organized a family-friendly event as the Philadelphia Phillies battle the Chicago White Sox.

Two free tickets are available to POMA District 10 Members, additional tickets are available for $20 each. Ticket includes a $12 food/soda voucher. There are a limited number of tickets so please RSVP to Jason Leeper, [email protected], as soon as possible.
