District 10 January 2019 Meeting

Important points to remember from the presentation:

  • Most patients with DM2 eventually require insulin therapy, due to decreased insulin sensitivity and decreased beta cell function
  • The goal fasting glucose in treatment is 90-110
  • 85% of patients on multiple doses of insulin are still above target
  • V-Go is a device that infuses insulin. It provides a steady state and is also a clicking device that is customized to patients needs for mealtime and snacking.
  • Risks when using V-Go
    - It must be removed prior to MRI
    - Skin irritations my occur
    - Hypoglycemia (it can only be given in 2 unit increments)

Elections were also held for offices, district board representative, and delegates. Dr. George Vermeire (POMA immediate past president) updated members on POMA, the NP bill, and Venue Change bill.
